Single-Family Permits Fall, While Multifamily Sector Sees Slight Uptick

Single-family home construction declined for the sixth consecutive month in June 2025, with permits down 5.6% year-to-date compared to 2024. In contrast, multifamily permits rose 2.9%. Fifteen states saw increases in single-family permits, led by Hawaii, while 35 states and D.C. experienced declines, with D.C. dropping 24.2%. Texas, Florida, and North Carolina led in permits but all showed decreases.
